Daily Memoirs

One of the toughest hurdles to creative living, especially writing, is lack of adequate time. Let's face it: life is busy for us all, & finding even a small niche of time to write is a challenge.

If you journal, blog, write poetry, or just aim to spend a few minutes each day stretching your writing muscles, here is the easiest concept imaginable. Be forewarned: it's amazingly addictive & fun. It forces you to be concise (well, that's exactly the point) & is a wonderful way to summarize your mood, day's happenings, random thoughts or goals. Photographers, I see this as a perfect tool for titling your pictures (especially those, like
me, undertaking a 365-photo project such as Blipfoto.)With no room for rambling, you won't waste time & may just be amazed at what surfaces.

If you haven't heard of this simple-but-brilliant idea, you must check out Six-Word Memoirs by SMITH Magazine. This movement is a genius spinoff of a challenge once asked of Hemingway to tell a story in six words. Started way back in 2006 as an online post asking "Can you tell your life story in six words?", it has since become a phenomenon, with its own bestselling book series. Try it for yourself & feel free to share your best mini memoirs here, but don't forget that I warned you about the addiction factor!

Michele, This has been my first PAD as well. I am still just sticking in my toe with blogs and websites and (truth be told) all technology. But I have found your word images as beautiful as your photographic ones. I hope to get to know you better. (elishevasmom from PAD)

Thanks so much for stopping by & for your kind words, Ellen. I'm going to miss the poem-a-day prompts, actually. I think I'm going to try the Wed. editions on Poetic Asides, now that I'm hooked! Hope to "see" you there! Best wishes on your chap book.
